Check Dams Module description

Drainage line is a natural water course conveying run off from ridge point to the point of concentration or outlet. This needs treatment both vegetative and stone checks to reduce silt load in the runoff storage structures. Masonry and Earthen barriers can be put up to create head to harvest run off water for recharge of ground water. Check dam is a stone masonry structure put up across the drainage line with catchment more 25 to 200 hafor harvesting runoff and to encourage ground water recharge.

Check dams are important structures like a small barrier or dam constructed across a, drainage ditch or other area of intensive flow for the purpose of reducing channel erosion. The DSS helps to evaluate and get results chiefly for Net Runoff in m3  and Total Environmental Flow in m3 (70% of total runoff), No of check dam proposed, Runoff volume retained per check dam (m3), Balance Runoff (m3), Cost of Construction(Rs/-) for water flow of a given catchment of a watershed.
